CPT 3 dose schedule

Hello! I am having a discussion at my work regarding 2/3 dose schedule vaccinces. Could you please clarify... I say only charge (this is the one we are looking at ) 90649 (HPV) and 90471 (vac admin) for the initial dose, then only 90471 for the next 2 doses in the series. Others think that we should charge 90649 and 90471 each time they get the shot in the 3 dose series. Thank you!

Hi Amber,

Yes you can bil the 90649 each time. The fact that it is a 3-dose type doesn't mean you're getting prepaid for the doses to come.

You know this is a common question I see and might make a good slide for our Q&A webinar. Vaccinations have been talked about before. If you have a redacted example for us of a case that would great Amber. We can share the education.

Sure!
Patients presents to the office for the secound dose of their HPV (90649). No E/M was performed, just saw the nurse for injection.
